Writer's picture: Fulham Running ClubFulham Running Club

It’s been another brilliant year for Fulham Running Club, filled with milestones, achievements, and community spirit. On Thursday 05 December we hosted the annual Fulham Running Club Xmas Party and Awards at The Railway in PutneyIt’s been another brilliant year

Key highlights: Celebrating a fantastic 2024

This year Fulham Running Club turned 20! We celebrated with a fantastic birthday party. Boaty also marked its 7th outing with another excellent event. Big thanks to Sophie Denman, who will be stepping down in 2025.

We launched our Couch to 5k program, welcoming new runners into our regular sessions thanks to coaches Claire, Tim, Katie, and Louise. The kit team (Kate, Jonty, Abi, and Liberty) also deserve huge thanks for our fantastic new kit.

Cross country and trail running continue to grow in popularity, with fresh faces stepping into leadership roles. The club's social scene has been thriving too, with weddings, new babies (at least four!), and plenty of fun at The Fez.

Running the full spectrum

Fulham runners have taken part in a huge range of events, from Stagger races and the Wimbledon Trail Series to the Sri Chinmoy, Surrey Road League, Second Sunday 5, and Last Friday of the Month runs. From club runs and intervals to ultra-marathons and parkruns, there’s something for everyone.

Thank you to our volunteers and community

A huge thank you to all our volunteers, including the ExCo (Bob, Emma, Lauren, Trev, Tim, Martin, Emilyn, and Alexis), and those who stepped down this year (Doug, Frederick, and Lara). Your hard work makes this club possible.

All our volunteers and runners are what makes this club so special. Your participation and support strengthen our community.

Bandit of the Year

2023 winner: This is a new award that we wanted to add this year to celebrate someone that is an example of what it means to be Fulham Running Club. FRC isn’t just about running, it’s about building a sense of community, being kind, and generally and genuinely positive.

Nominees included: Alexis Cannon, Alice Riddell-Webster, Ben Cockshull, Cara Coughlan, Christopher Shaw, Dan Mahoney, Edward Bruce, Emilyn Hutchinson, Gabriel Glencross, Gordon Cannon, Josh Hinh, Lauren Feltham, Martin Milward, Rick Cannon, Tim Haughton, Tom Mackay, Trev Ingram

This year’s winner was selected because:

He is a very modest member of FRC, regularly volunteering at events from parkrun to FRC. He is a true advocate for the inclusive nature of FRC! He never shouts about his running achievements but he completed the London Marathon this year and is getting faster and more consistent with his running – imagine what he could achieve if he put down the beer and put some training in! And finally, he is a big part of our Saturday mornings as he brings people together for coffee and the quiz

The 2024 winner is Christopher Shaw

The non-running categories

And to round it off, we also had five new non-running categories at this years awards. The winners were:

Most likely to be hungover at a run/race: Edward Bruce (A legendary turnout to the Saturday parkrun on 3 hours of sleep)

Funniest Non-Running Related Moment : Callum Mason being an investigative journalist and publicly calling out runners' times at the stagger, then proceeding to sandbag/win.

Celebrity Look-A-Like: Monty Dove as Thomas Brodie-Sangster (the kid from Love Actually)

Most Laps of London: Michael Maiman (The man’s Strava heat map must be a sight)

Biggest Smile: Eve Chan (Even when running up the toast rack, she's still smiling!)
